Seven Ways to Optimize Your Self-Respect and Gain Peace of Mind

Actionable steps for closing the gap between intentions and action

After many years of personal growth, trial and error, and mixed results, I am finally ready to unburden myself of my chief discovery: if you want to raise your self-respect (and who doesn’t?) act in accord with your best principles. A mix of strategies and tactics for bringing this result follows.

I have had a lot of experience with self-directed demands. Because of a willingness to comply, I have finally taken better control of my story and gained many advantages. So can you.

It is due mainly to the overarching value of self-respect by which I have to rectify past wrongs, slips-ups, and indulgences. I must admit to too much alcohol, drugs, and overeating, i.e., recreational gluttony.

A significant deficit of dignity created the demand for self-reform. Sound familiar? (The fat man with an enormous belly at the gym this morning doggedly doing the stationary bike reminded me: you sin, you pay. At least he was trying.)

Do you find it challenging to follow self-help advice even when it is sound? Are you frustrated that sometimes you cannot follow your promises?

Musings about self-respect usually come down to thinking about how one can best put ideas into action…
